Family mediation – with a trained, professional mediator – is available via video conference, and is free if you qualify for legal aid.
An FMC Registered Mediator can help you make agreements about things that are important for you and your family when your circumstances change, for example in divorce or separation.
A mediator can help you make new or revised arrangements during the current restrictions on movement due to coronavirus, and help you agree temporary arrangements that can be looked at again when circumstances change. They are able to do so via video conference or, if video is not possible, via telephone.
Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings (MIAMs) and mediation can both take place online.
Registered mediators must adhere to the FMC’s Code of Practice, which requires them to remain impartial and maintain confidentiality throughout the mediation process. The arrangements which family mediators put in place for video or (if video is not available) telephone mediation will ensure these principles are respected.
