Hybrid Mediation: A joined up approach of legal professionals and neutrals working with separated families to achieve the best possible outcome

This is an opportunity for legal professionals to increase their awareness, knowledge and confidence about hybrid mediation in order to actively explore this as an option with their clients. This session should help you to understand the benefit of using neutrals within the DR process and how this can help separating families including cases of abuse.

This session will include:

•  A presentation on the benefits of using hybrid mediation in complex cases, high conflict cases and cases involving domestic abuse;

• Active discussion on accessing legal advice during the hybrid mediation process by involving lawyers directly;

• Active discussion on a joined-up approach to achieve the best possible outcome for separated families using neutrals within the process;

• Exploring case examples and success stories;

• Explore how it is different to Private FDR’s, other DR processes and court;

• Discussion in threes or pairs on referring current cases load to hybrid mediation. Group discussion if anyone willing to share any examples and take aways from the session;

Your speakers
Sarah Manning is a Partner at Hall Brown and practices as both a solicitor and mediator dealing with financial and children matters. Sarah is a hybrid mediator specialising in complex, high net worth mediation cases by utilising other professionals working with separated families. Sarah is also a trained child inclusive mediator and can speak to children within the mediation process if appropriate.

 

 

Elaine Richardson is a family law solicitor, accredited child-inclusive hybrid mediator, collaborative lawyer, trainer, Professional Practice Consultant to fellow mediators and a Family Law Supervisor for fellow family law lawyers. Elaine trains lawyers and mediators and specialise in domestic abuse, safeguarding and high conflict personalities. In hybrid mediation Elaine keeps confidences to assist the negotiation and welcomes solicitors and barristers into mediation to support their clients. Elaine has been a member of Resolution for over 25 years, having been chair of the Cheshire and Merseyside branches. She is a member of the national Dispute Resolution Committee of Resolution and the winner of the 2019 John Cornwell Award. Elaine served a term of 9 years on The Law Society national Family Law Committee and has worked for the Home Office as a Truth Facilitator for the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse.
